This is FASCINATING. Researchers were able to pin down the cause of measurable global 60 second power spikes to software that does regular tasks on the minute mark. They found large scale battery installations as one major cause, but obviously this is true for any other computerized system that does cron jobs and has a synchronized clock. As weird as it sounds, adding random 0-59.999s delays to cron jobs in Linux distributions and other software would actually help the power grid.
The more I think about it, the more this makes me angry.
I have had jobs with leadership who treat people like this. It damages your health (mental, physical, and emotional).
And in a market like ours, I suspect there are a lot of people at Proton who have pits in their stomachs. They’re expressing their pain to their partners, or kids, or friends. Feeling trapped.
This is what emotional abuse, toxic masculinity, and tech-bro capitalism look like. I’m tired of people thinking ethics and technology aren’t intersectional. They are.
Fuck Andy Yen, and fuck @protonprivacy.

Weirdly segueing into Ross Kemp begrudgingly answering questions about Traitors, with the "Traitors Gate" doing a hell of a lot of work to crowbar it into the conversation
What do you think about poppies, the RBL, and the way we cover it in national media
the problem with serverless is that eventually someone has to manage the servers that all the serverless shit runs on

So, my previous apartment – it was in Leiden, on a narrow medieval street, and the buildings were all quite old so they weren't all built to the same standard floor-height, and the windows were all huge. As a result, I could look out my window and have a crystal clear view of the floor of the living room across from me, where some college girls lived.
One day, they had some guy-friends over. And I happened to glance out the window and see one of these boys, mid-conversation, casually and smoothly drop to the floor, execute The Worm with flawless undulations, and spring back to his feet all in one effortless motion, carrying on like nothing happened.
I'm haunted by it. Haunted by this impossibly cool guy I was never meant to perceive, this stolen glimpse of perfection. Where is he now, and is he doing The Worm?
Look at what an amazing job I did flossing! It would be a shame for me to EAT A BUNCH OF SEAWEED SALAD
